Wiltshire Women in Dairy Launch.

On Thursday 23rd October, we held for our very first Women in Dairy Wiltshire meeting !

Hosted by the Ryall Family, the focus was on Mastitis Management & Control – diving into vet data, prevention, and vaccination options.

Will Sommerville from The George Farm Vets kicked things off with introductions and a great discussion on what’s most important when tackling mastitis. We explored the difference between contagious and environmental pathogens (from Strep. uberis to E. coli) before heading out on a farm walk looking at parlour routines, teat dipping, cubicle setups, and straw housing.

Josh from HIPRA then talked us through vaccine options:

Startvac – helps reduce sub-clinical mastitis and severity of clinical cases caused by Staph. aureus, coliforms & coagulase-negative staphylococci.

Ubac – reduces Strep. uberis infections, somatic cell counts, and milk losses.

A super informative day with loads to take home and put into practice

Huge thanks to both speakers and to HIPRA for kindly providing lunch and for all the ladies who joined us on the day!

Save the date for our next meeting – 22nd January 2026 for an in depth presentation on making the most of the data managing application UNIFORM - Agri
